This would be the last picture I took before the rest-stop below. I made the mistake of sprinting to a county line sign. Bruce (recumbent) and "Steady" counter-attacked. I was able to "latch on" behind them but they worked me over pretty good for more than a dozen miles of hills and varied terrain. I had 3 or 4 heart-attacks trying to stay behind them.

Cy and and would split at this rest stop and put in some more miles toward Hillsborough. Cy and I managed to get in over 60 miles on this Wednesday.

Thursday, April 1, 2010-Bass Mountain Loop With Cy

Heading south west from Hillsborough.
Heading south west from Hillsborough.

We headed out Dimmicks Mill and Ben Johnson leaving Hillsborough. We took a left on West 10 and stayed on West 10 just past Buckhorn and took a left on Bowman Road.

Things get a little fuzzy for me here. We hit Mebane Oaks Road at some point.

We went to Swepsonville where I missed a couple of shots of a muddy river.

This may be right over the top of Bass Mountain.

Allen House - Circa 1780

Original frontier log dwelling built by Quaker John Allen III. House stood approximately 400 feet southeast. Housed five generations. Moved in 1965 to Alamance Battleground State Historic Site.

We were coming back some on 54 before turning toward Saxapahaw.

Friday, April 2, 2010-Cy and I ride 40.

I guess this seems repetitive but- I love these old buildings, barns, silos.

We rode an "out & back" out to Saxapahaw.

So- yes, I was able to get yet another pic here!

Saturday!?!

My legs hurt too much to ride much today. I didn't try to catch any ride out of Carrboro as I was sure any one of the rides  would beat me up. I just strolled out from Hillsborough spinning as much as I could comfortable. Trying to use little pressure but keep the cadence kind of high.

Carrboro Saturday Moring B-Ride

I ran into the B-Ride on "Union Groove". I said the heck with it and turned around and rode with them. I heard the ride leader, Jeff Klee shout for them to wait up as I caught on. He's a great ride leader!

I told everyone that I would probably bail out somewhere. Too many miles.

This is Nicks Road. I love this spot.

So- I shoot quite a few shots hoping that one will come out good.

The scenery is so good that most come out great.

Daniela is purty and strong. Gosh- she's purty strong!

I don't drink really. Once a month now I may treat myself to one dollar Margarita night at Cassa Ibarra. Here I met Lisa and I want to say Ramone. That's not it. I hope they correct me. Anyway He is from France. She is Canadian/American-maybe. They met in French class. They are very delightful. We talked cycling (Paris-Brest-Paris), cycling tattoos (early 1900s posters on my legs), and France. I told Ramone about $1 Margarita night which he enjoyed.

Easter Sunday-Mark's Birthday Ride!

Yes- it was Mark's birthday. Right above is Matt Schumacher, too young!

Mark turned 56 today. So the ride is going to be 56 miles for some of these fellows.

Some other riders are taking advantage of the beautiful weather.

We pick "Ken" up here.

Cy is rolling out. Cy and I put in an extra 22 miles riding to the ride. Cy has an Easter dinner date so he will cut the ride short.

It's the Hillbros Chapter of the Playtex Cycling Team!

Yep- most of these guys are older than dirt.

Some of them have no visible means of support.

Today with the extra miles that Cy and I had riding out and the extra mile I rode back home I get 86 miles. It felt like 87 though!

Wednesday was actually 59 miles.

Thursday I netted 75 miles.

Thursday was about 40 miles.

Saturday was 61 miles.

Sunday I managed 86 miles.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ 321 miles for the week?

My legs hurt.

I couldn't believe it when Cy called again today.

We only rode 15. I'm tires.
