Why Lionel Messi Can't Score Goals in International level

Updated on September 18, 2011

The Two Faces

There are two faces of Messi

Argentina has gone out of the World Cup 2010 following Brazil. No wonder, wins and loses are not a new thing in football. But, the World Footballer of the Year and the Best Footballer in the world now, Lionel Messi, even can't score a goal!!! There's a chance to wonder. You can say it is of bad luck or the defenders didn't allowed Messi to move. The first one is may be true, but the second?? In Barcelona, is the defenders of opposing team helped him to score??? No. In this previous season, Messi played 53 games for Barca and scored 47 goals!! And for Argentina, he played 49 games total and only netted 13 goals!! Isn't this worth thinking? A Spanish tabloid wrote " Messi is two, The Messi in Barcelona and The Messi in Argentina. People want to see The Messi in Barcelona". I strongly support these words, because we have seen it in the World Cup. Here, i am going to analyse the reasons why Messi can't score goals for Argentina. If you don't agree with me, please comment.

Bad Luck or ???

Reasons Why Messi Can't Score for Argentina

1. Maradona Said Messi To Attack From Back

This is a reason why Messi can't score goals for his nation. The Argentine coach/manager, former Argentinian player, Diego Maradona said Messi to lead the attack from back. These prevented Messi from scoring, and the result was positively affected Tevez and Higuain. When Messi come to the penalty area, Tevez and Higuain will be there to receive ball and Messi passes ball to these two and they scores. Or When Messi's shoot is blocked by defenders, goalkeeper or even cross bars the players will net it. We know that, the hat-trick of Higuain, the 3 goals where came from the pass of Messi, one of the where the shoot missed by Messi. So these fact didn't allowed Messi to score a goal.

2. Barcelona is Barcelona, Argentina is Argentina.

I know that you all know this. I meant here that the playing style of Barca is differ from the style of Argentina. Messi plays about 50-60 games a season with Barca and he knows well about his clubs style. But when we take the matter of Argentina, Messi, even other players didn't get enough time to spend together and they can't understand the playing style of their manager there in their national team. This is not a matter of Messi alone, many players suffer this difficulty, excluding Brazilians. They starts their training as early as possible.

3.Messi is afraid of getting Injured

It is not a secret that Messi is afraid of being injured. This is after the UEFA Champions League semi final against Chelsea, because Chelsea players tackled very hardly and Messi injured severely. After this incident, Messi is not playing freely in these type of situations. In South Africa, Messi is tackled continually when he gets the ball. This made Messi to play with care. This is another answer to ' why Messi Can't score?"

4. There is no Xavi or Iniesta in Argentina

This is a very true reason for the goalless performance of Messi in the World Cup. It is a basic fact of Football that every player needs a companion or two, to play well. In Barca, there is Iniesta, Xavi or Alves to help Messi to score goals. Beyond an Attacking Midfielder/Playmaker, Messi have a role of striker in Barca. Messi know the very next movement of all of his team mates in Barcelona and His team mates are aware about the next movement of Messi. And they can play a well team game and they can win the each game Messi scoring most of the goals. But, in his national team, there's co-ordination among them.

Best Young Player

Outstanding Player.

The Final : Messi Is Messi Because of Barcelona

Yes, this is the big factor why Messi scores a tons of goals to his club. Lionel Messi, was a short boy and he is Footballer of the Year because of Barcelona. Messi was very short(like me) when he was a teenager. But still he was an outstanding player. This encouraged his father and he decided to treat his son for the hormone deficiency. But when he went to the doctor, he realized its very costly. Someone suggested him to migrate to Spain and told to visit Barca. He found money for it and went to Barca. The Board of Barcelona club was impressed with th game of Little Messi and they treated Messi well and he overcame the disease and grown to Lionel Messi, the little legend. All the money and expends for his treatment is taken by Club of Barcelona and he is grown from the youth academy of Barca. So Messi is very thankful to Barcelona and it is his life. So Messi will score as much as goals he can score for Barcelona and will show his respect and love to his love to his club.

There's will be also some other reasons, tell me about it by commenting. Thanx for Rading. Comment. Rate. Subscribe.

Having witnessed the 2014 world cup, I would say that Messi almost single-handedly got Argentina to the world cup final. The two best teams reached the final and the Germans were good enough to stop Messi from playing his usual game.

Messi seems to be too cautious while playing international matches for the sheer fear of being injured. If he gets injured, then he might be ruled out of several club matches from which he earns a lot..So in club level he gives his best while in the international mathces he just plays carefully and ends up playing in a dull manner without scoring goals.

So far, not so good for Messi at the international level. At age 24, he has a lot of international football left to play, and if there is any truth to the suggestion that he is holding back in international competition due to his priorities in club football, then as time goes by, success at the international level will become a higher priority. Until he can prove himself in international football, he can not be considered the world's greatest. I think he might yet achieve this ..

It's unfortunate that the heir apparent to Diego Maradona flops for the Albiceleste. It seems to be a pattern now. However, the performance of Argentina has not been great at all since they reached the 2005 Confederations Cup final. I think the inability to find a suitable coach has hampered the side.

Messi scores goals for Barca but you have to admit he has incredible ball control and pace. Yes it helps to have Iniesta and Xavi but he is skilled and has great accuracy.

By the way, you say you're a 19 year old boy but why do you have a pic of a girl?

We have to train both of our foots to be a fantastic player, i think is more preferably like to play with his left foot, and it is his weakness. Any way thanx for stopping by and i appreciate your comment.

He needs to train his weak foot. As a soccer I have learn how to strop prdictable players. Messi will use his left foot to stop or move a ball that is on his right side. If I know that he is going to use his left foot I could cut off his right side and force him on to his left and I will be waiting for him. If he could use that right foot like he does his left...unstopable.

There' no one in the Argentine team to givee Messi the ball, But in Barca, There's Xavi and Iniesta, that's why Messi can score easy goals. And................ I am not a sports journalist, I am only a 19 year ol boy from India. But I have about 6 years of both watching and playing football. And I am a great fan of your rivals Chelsea and Real Madrid. Thanx both of you for your comments.

I totally agree with katiem2. We do not know where messi's heart is....

Well its a wonderful analysis and maybe you should be a sport journalist. The truth is that he should settle down and let the energy flow naturally. Secondly it is more than 90% the barcelona factor. Look at spain now..

They have won the world cup with a spanish team consisting of 8 key barcelona players in which all goals scored came from the Barcelona footballers (David Villa-now a barca hitman, Iniesta-the little weapon, and Puyol-the heavy machinery). With such world class weapons in a team, why woouldn't it be so so easy for our little dear messi to perform his magic comfortably, scoring hat tricks as if football was meant for him and him alone? As long as Argentina would not adopt the barca style, give him that free role to operate and have a squqd which can link well with him, even if Argentina shine out the light, messi may be a turtle in his shell for the national side.

Great hub and thanks for it. By the way, I am an arsenal fan but I love Barcelona too (except for the fact, we were trashed 4-1 in camp nuo)

I don't know where his head and heart are but it does not seem as though niether are in the right place. Maybe he should just relax and be his true self, I think he trying to hard to make everyone around him happy and deliver instead of letting natural energy flow. :) Great read thanks.
