Inspired - in the US we didn't see some of the more moving parts which were edited out. The whole point of opening ceremonies is to celebrate your own country, so yes they are all self-indulgent to a degree. I however view opening ceremonies as a work of art that unfolds live in real time. I appreciate the months and months and months of work it takes to create that one event. If our media could shut up the talking heads a bit and not edit so much of it and perhaps broadcast at the same time it would have been SO much better. I still enjoyed it though and found it very imaginative and unique. The lighting of the cauldron with all the petals was stunning.
