For me Inesta got the skills which is required for Messi to hit a goal.overall they are both the same on skills and experience as a football player.
Xavi is a far better play maker than Inesta FB Barcelona's #6 I believe was the 2009 Champion League's man of the match. Inesta might be 3rd or 4th behind Leo Messi #2 tied with Lothar Matthaus but any real serious football fan or newspaper will tell you this is about Xavi "quite simply the best midfielder in football today...." and for me he 's #1.
I'm certain it will split fans as it has aleady on here. Personally Xavi just edges it for me but not by much. Both are unbelievable players.
Why compare them? They play in the same midfield for club and country. Both are incredible players and contribute equally.
A better comparison might be with fellow Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano. I would still side with either of the Spanish players.
