Was British professional wrestling just a pantomime?
I the 1970s I used to watch wrestling on World of Sport every Saturday and see it live at Croydon (every other Tuesday evening if I remember right). There is now plenty of it on Youtube. How much of it was genuine and how much was fake?
Yes but wasn't good fun on a saturday afternoon, better than the poo which is on now!
It was fake (like WWE) but certainly very entertaining.
I know many wrestlers. All of wrestling is choreographed, but the hazards on the body are very much real. Careers have been ended from messing up a move or a spot. World of Sport was very entertaining for its time, but that era did produce some brilliant talents that became huge names even today. The Hart Family, Fit Finlay, Dave Taylor, William Regal among others all featured on World of Sport back in 'the day'.
