The biggest sporting event in the world is undoubtedly the Futbol World Cup. Other notable events are perhaps the Summer Game Olympics and the American Football Super Bowl. In the land down under (Australia), the biggest sporting event would probably be the Rugby World Cup.

I have to admit that Mike Syr Sutton has a point with March Madness and the USA Men's College Basketball Championships. It is indeed my favorite event each year. Still, I can admit that World Cup Futbol (Soccer) is more important to most of the world outside the USA.

To be honest I personally think it is The World Cup but i am English and live in Australia and it is still massive here, and i have to disagree with you on the rugby world cup here in Australia it is easily either the AFL Grand final or the Ashes. But i love March Madness big College basketball fan, NBA finals and Super Bowl always great to watch as a general sports fan. But my main sport and passion is Association Football and The Champions League Final is the biggest sporting event for me.

I would have to say the Summer Olypmic games there are games such as American Football in the USA and Football in the UK that have massive followings but no other events (except possibly the Football World Cup) brings together some many different countries, people and competitors into one sporting event.

Americans might not like to hear this, but I think the World Cup is the biggest sporting event in the world.

I think the Super Bowl would probably come after that. March Madness is big but I don't think it's huge outside of the US.
