Yes, I do this nearly everyday, but I wouldn't enter a competition, I just run to clear my mind and to keep fit.

I have and will definitely do it again. When I'm running regularly I usually run 3 - 5 miles anyway, but there's nothing like the excitement of running a race in a field of your running peers. And most likely, you run faster than your normal running pace. The adrenaline just carries you.
