To me the answer is "no" . Thank goodness or I'd never golf again.

No, my proof: I  have tried to be an outdoors man for more than fifty years and there is a big question as to my out door survival skills. I played at tennis in college and although I was on the team, never got to play in tournaments. I greatly enjoyed the outdoors and still do when I get the chance to go, I watch tennis matches all the time and still enjoyed playing in school and several years afterward. No, we don't have to be "The Greatest" as Muhammad Ali used to say, in order that we can enjoy ourselves in life.

No.  I am a terrible fisherman but I enjoy it.

I'm very competitive and while I agree that you don't have to excel in a sport to enjoy it, winning is very enjoyable as well.
