According to Outside Magazine's Aug 2012 edition, 2012 Olympic gold medals are 92.5% silver, plated with 6 grams of gold and worth about $710.  It also said the U.S. Olympic Committee payed American athletes $25,000 for each gold medal won back in Beijing!
