What’s the actual value of gold and silver in an Olympic gold medal?
How much does an Olympic gold medal weighs and what percentage of Olympic gold medal is gold and silver?
According to Outside Magazine's Aug 2012 edition, 2012 Olympic gold medals are 92.5% silver, plated with 6 grams of gold and worth about $710. It also said the U.S. Olympic Committee payed American athletes $25,000 for each gold medal won back in Beijing!
Apparently not as much as you would expect.
