I'm thinking about giving longboarding a try, does anyone know a good board for beginners?

I'd recommend a mini mal. It's a half height malibu. Not to heavy to carry but bearable if you are a guy or a girl. Choose soft rolling waves to start. The mini mal provides width and girth for better stability while surfing. You are more likely to stand up earlier if you use one of these. Big curl waves, or rip curl surf doesn't suit the mini mal, you need a thruster for this, but undulating small or medium reef roll waves are the best for a long ride on these, and a more enjoyable way to surf. Learners and advanced surfers use the mini mal, so especially if you are new to the sport, this is the board for longboarding.

It's similar to skateboarding, but has an easier and calmer approach. Search it up.
