I was first introduced to white wine but I didn't like the taste. So I experimented with red wines. I find the sweet and semi-dry red wines often go well with red meats. Rice wines are also good as table wines. However, I am not giving suggestions here as a wine connoisseur. I'm just sharing my very limited wine experience. lol

If you would like something light try a cold Pinot Gris!

I don't know about wines being bad for you, but red wine is definitely good for you! Only one glass a day mind.
Mind you I tend to stick to the cheap stuff - 80c a litre and comes in a carton not a bottle LOL so it probably is full of chemicals and stuff.

If you want to become an alcoholic, you better start with rye whisky. Just drink it regularly, in 2 years, you will be hooked. With wine it will take longer, like may be 50 years or smth.
    Just kidding!(Well, almost)

Start with a light Merlot or Shiraz.

If you want to try white then go for a Pinot Grigio.

For me, Shiraz is by far the greatest red.

    California Zinfandel, fruity and soft

New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc, fresh, grassy, full-on

Germany Rieslings, strong aromas, high acidity

What you probably don't want to go for as a beginner is more complex Italian or French wines. IMO

I suppose Jesus Juice is out of the question, so any fine red wine, since I am a cheap skate when it comes to wine, I prefer the wine from Netto under £3 a bottle, happy days!!!!!

It's about the taste, but also about getting merry so indulge the Happy Days!!!!
