NFL - Is this a good idea - extending the number of teams in the playoff up to 14 or 16?
Any thoughts about this?
It seems that sports organizations up the number of teams in a playoff just to increase the number of games that can be broadcast, thereby making more money. Several Latin American soccer tournaments have done this over the years. I don't think die-hard fans mind having the playoffs stretched further with more match ups, if anything it's just more entertainment. But I don't know how players and coaches feel about it.
bubba-math, i have to disagree, it used to be exactly as you said, but the problem is baseball now runs into november, and hockey, football and basketball runs into mid spring and it's getting ridiculous.
I think all of the four major sports need to look at their schedules and do some cutbacks. i know they won't because of the $ factor, but it's getting to a point where the fans are turning off some sports near the end of the year because they are getting bored with them running so long.
I will concede that football is a little different because it is america's #1 sport, but really, more isn't always better.
but that's just me...
