What positives did Lance Armstrong bring to cycling and life?
Yes he was a doper and it's wrong. But what positives do you see that Armstrong bought to the sport of cycling and society in general? Or do you struggle to see past the media brandishing a cheat?
Armstrong heightened America's awareness of cycling and testicular cancer. Americans became more interested in a sport considered more European or "foreign" than American. The money he raised for cancer reseach is certainaly commendable. However, what I consider his positive contribution is that he is just another imperfect human, like the rest of us, that reached a point in his quest to be the best cyclist where he did whatever it took to become the best in his sport. What Armstrong did is not unique to him as an individual or to cycling, just look at what has happened in other sports in America like baseball and football. In American culture, the value of being a "winner" ranks higher the being a person of "integrity." Just look at business practices as well as sports. Integrity should be a higher value but in realtiy it is not. So Armstrong's positive contribution may well be getting people to rethink our values and truly practice them.

Anyone notice the similarity between Lance Armstrong and Monsanto?Apparently, if you get successful and rich and powerful enough, no-one can hold you accountable for stepping all over other people.
