Dirk Nowitzki has always been the best euro player. He brought his team to the finals in 06 and beat the self-proclaimed dream team a couple of years ago in the finals. He's lead his team to the playoffs every year he's been there except his first two. He basically brought the mavericks to the relevance in the league they have today. Also in the conversation for me might be Tony Parker, but he's still got six years or so left in him.
Petrovic was great and would probably be the all-time great had he not tragically passed away.
Hard to argue against Nowitzki being the greatest ever when you stack up his numbers. By the time he quits playing, you can scratch out the European part and argue that he is one of the best of any nationality to play the game.
We'll never know for sure, but based off of people that saw him play in his prime, and the limited Russian video of him, I'd have to say Arvydas Sabonis. If the rumors aren't true, then I'd say Dirk Notwitzki. Drazen Petrovic was a great pure shooter, but he didn't have much intrest in playing defense.
I think that was the difference between Petrovic and Kukoc. Petro could shoot but didn't enjoy defence but Kukoc could play anywhere. Both amazing and both Croatian
I've got to go with Dirk. The way he elevated his game to another level in the Mavs Championship run was incredible. He had one of the best series ever. That matchup would be hard for any team in history. The 7 footer with the shooting touch like that. He could also take it to the rack. He was a very good free throw shooter. He's the best in my mind.
I want to say Dirk Nowitzki. No doubt his consistency year in and year out will be hard to stack up against.
I seriously hate the guy, but if we were talking about foreign-born player I'd have to throw Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan in the mix. Ginobili might go down as the most awkward player in NBA history, but as much as I hate his style of bb, he is a winner. He also has an Olympic gold medal from 2004. He is a driving force in San Antonio's drive towards the best record in basketball nearly every season (along with Tony Parker and Duncan).
Tim Duncan is not foreign born as he was born in USVI. Steve Nash on the other hand is foreign born (S. Africa) and I'd throw him in your "mix." .)
That's true, and the original question was who was the best "European" basketball player of all time?
Dirk Nowitzki and Vladi Divac are the best two. Yao Ming would most likely out performed both of them if injuries had not cut his career so short. Dirk won a title almost single handily. none of the others did that, so in my book Dirk Nowitzki is the best.

The Mavs team is well rested and in fact hungry for the Championship title - we can say the same thing with the OKC.Mavs is the favorite team to win one, but who knows the ball is round in basketball.
