Levis 511 Skinny Jeans

Updated on August 22, 2012

Levis 511 Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans are in fashion again, part of a greater trend away from the baggier clothes from the last decade. Levis 511 Skinny Jeans are at the forefront of this shift. This should come as no surprise, due to Levi’s icon stature, affordability and versatility as jeans for work or play.

What are Skinny Jeans?

Skinny jeans are nothing terribly innovative. Just take a normal pair of jeans, now shrink the circumference of the leg and take some fabric out of the waist. You’re left with pair of jeans that sits close and comfortable from the waist to the ankle. Just how close and comfortable skinny jeans sit on you will vary from brand to brand. Levi’s 511’s offer slightly more room then average, which differentiates them from Levi’s 510 Super Skinny jeans, which leave little room.

Colors, Styles and Fit

Levi’s 511 Skinny jeans come in a dozen or so styles and colors. This variety, in a reliable size and fit, is often why Levi’s are the only brand some people wear. Styles vary from a traditional blue jeans look to a worn carpenter jean. Colors vary from the standard shades of blue to black and from grey to a tan natural color. Levi’s 511’s are made of 98% cotton and 2% lycra. Lycra is added to give the jeans more memory and to better conform to your body. This added flexibility as made the Levi’s 511 popular among women as well. If you’re looking for a less forgiving pair of jeans, look at the “rigid” styles. For more info on the 511s, check out this guide.

Are Skinny Jeans Right for You?

Some men would never be caught dead in skinny jeans. Others will swear skinny jeans get them more compliments and looks from women the any other style. The truth for you likely lies in your body type. If skinny jeans fit your build, you’re going to look good to the opposite sex. If they don’t fit your build, you wouldn’t want to be caught dead in them. If you’re going to buy skinny jeans, make sure they fit your body type. The 511 jeans are for men with a slender build, not for men with an athletic lower body or who are even slightly overweight.

Levi's 514 Slim Straight

Comparable Styles

As noted above, Levis 510 Super Skinny jeans are even more tight then the 511’s.  These will require a slender build.   The Levis 514 Slim Straight jean offers more room but still has a slim look.  This may be the style for you if you have more lower body mass but still want to stick with the current slimming trend in clothing style.  Levis 520 Taper jeans offer a traditional regular fit in the waist in thighs but taper down to a leg opening the same size as Levi’s 510 Super Skinny jeans.

Eco Conscious

Some of the Levi’s 511 Skinny jeans styles are made using Levi’s Water<Less finishing process, designed to significantly reduce the amount of water used to make a pair of jeans.    Levi’s expects to save 16 million liters of water by switching to this new process

What to Pay

Some websites have Levi’s skinny jeans listed for as much as $80.   If you’re paying more then $45 –shipping and tax included – you’re paying way too much.  Some styles and sizes can be had for less then $35, shipping and tax included.

Where to Buy

If you're going to buy the 511s, you'll probably get the best overall deal online. Check out, http://www.ibuyjeans.com/, its runs down the best online retailers. A lot of department stores sell Levi's 511s, but often they do not carry all the colors and sizes that are available. On the web, you'll get whatever you need. And prices are generally lower too, especially when you figure in things like sales tax.
