Hot, New Nail Art Trends

Updated on June 23, 2013

Want to add a little sparkle to your fingertips? Not sure on how to add a little glitz without diamonds and pricey jewels? The easy answer is adding some nail art!

Beyond the basic nail polish colors you can find in your local drugstore or the nail art trends you’ve probably seen on some of your favorite celebrities, new colors, patterns, and shapes are continuing to emerge that may soon become your new favorite. Here are several new trends that are sure to peak your interest...

You may be crazy in love with claw shaped nails as seen on Lady Gaga and Rihanna but a new shape may soon take hold of your heart. The new Stiletto shaped nail is becoming a quick favorite for those who dare to live on the edge. With extreme angles and sharp tips this nail shape is not for the faint of heart.

Creative choices in color can also add some flair to your fingertips. Matte nail color finishes add an intriguing touch to basic color shades and looks great in black or mixed with traditional glossy colors. The ombre effect can blend some of your favorite shades, or you can use the Christian Louboutin-inspired design or crescent-moon design to combine more than one color on your manicure.

Variations on the French Manicure

Modern twists have been added to the classic French manicure as different colors, patterns, and shapes create youthful looks on an otherwise basic design.

A play on texture can take basic manicure colors to another level. Studs and jewels offer a sleek, fashion forward finish while beaded and even furry manicures add an element of the unexpected.

Try mixing it up with fun prints and patterns. New trends include animal skin prints and lacey designs that are ultra-feminine and flirty.

For an expert finish try visiting your local professional nail salon. And also remember to always use clean, sanitized tools any time you get a manicure or pedicure in order to help safeguard against infection. Legitimate professional nail salons should have sanitizing equipment and licenses of the operators clearly posted.
