Silk Scarves and Shawls –The Cunning Disguises for Special Occasions

Updated on August 24, 2015

The invitation has arrived. It is a wedding, a christening, an anniversary or a work event. Unfortunately, you do not really have the money to spend on another new outfit.

Yet, you do not want to wear the one you wore last week or last month, again. The solution is a simple and cost-effective one.

Take the clothing you have worn previously and “jazz it up.”

You simply need to disguise it, and an easy and inexpensive way to do so is by means of a silk scarf or shawl.

Obviously, we are not referring to those small rectangular squares commonly worn as a headpiece and tied neatly beneath the chin. This would have little to no effect. What we are talking about are the long, even extremely long pieces of flowing silk material. These can successfully wrap themselves around the shoulders or the entire length of the dress if need be.

People’s memories being what they are, most would have fastened on the color, the neckline or the hem of the dress or skirt and blouse ensemble. If you wear a different blouse, drape a shawl, or scarf, over the shoulders or let it fall gracefully onto the skirt. Another option is to let the silk material loosely cover an elegant pair of slacks or leggings. Using the different blouse trick and combining it with the silk scarf will ensure no one recognizes the outfit as one you have worn in the past.

You can also use another approach. This works best if only one or two people have seen you in this outfit. Take a long color coordinated scarf and simply tie it beneath the bust line. The gown remains the same, but you have given it a new flow. It now is an Empire line dress.

While it is possible to purchase long scarves in a traditional department store or large box store, this may not be the most effective way to go. Many of these scarves not only are cheap, but also look so. For that truly special event, you should consider buying a hand-painted silk scarf or shawl. They will provide you with a quality and uniqueness the others lack.

The strength of hand-painted scarves and shawls lies in their distinctiveness. They are truly one-of-a-kind. This eliminates another possible problem. While someone else may wear the same outfit as you and accessorize the outfit with a silk scarf or two, she will not be doing so with the same design as yours. As a result, you will never have to fear duplication.

Nor will you ever have to worry about running out of choices. The designs of hand-painted scarves and shawls are myriad in number. There are different themes and color schemes. These are plentiful enough to suit any wardrobe and preference whether it be for ornate flowers, simple bi-color designs or elaborate geometric patterns.

So why not avoid the worrisome expense that can spoil an invitation to a special event. Pick out one of the many available hand-made scarves or shawls. Disguise your outfit with élan and enjoy the festivities.
