Silk Shawls – The Perfect Accessories for Evening Wear

Updated on August 24, 2015

Whether the affair is informal or informal, women want to look great on those occasions when they step out. We try so very hard to find the ideal outfit for that special cocktail party, romantic dinner, Broadway opening, evening at the opera or company Christmas party. Even when the perfect outfit comes easily to mind, another problem remains – what to wear to show off, not hideously conceal or otherwise spoil the outfit. Throwing on a jacket or bulky coat may detract and not flatter the appearance.

Summer days may be warm, but the evenings that follow are frequently cool. While you may want to sport that low-cut, backless or shoulderless dress, it may be risky. You need to find something that will cover you without hiding the appearance you wish to make. This can be daunting. How do you locate an item fitting this description: elegant, stylish and matching? The answer may surprise you – silk wraps or shawls. These accessories are extremely lightweight unlike traditional coats or jackets. Moreover, the fabric drapes beautifully, flattering the shape and sizes of a wide variety of women.

How does this work? Take for example that perennial staple for evening occasions – the little black dress. Drape a hand dyed, vivid silk shawl over the shoulders. The result is a look that is both unique and graceful. This works even if some individual has shown up in a similar or, horrifically identical black number. Your elegant silk shawl will make your dress stand out gracefully from any competition.

When women attend formal functions, the preference is for simple and plain outfits. There is a tendency to avoid patterns. This works in your favour if you decide to wear a silk shawl or wrap. The variety of inimitable patterns acts to break down the larger blocks of solid colors. Your only decision is to choose a motif that works best with the selected clothing. Keep in mind that, generally, cream, white, ivory or black outfits find a match with most other color combinations and patterns.

Adding to the flexibility of silk shawls is the variety of styles and lengths. Some shawls extend full-length downwards ending in a point. This creates added interest to an otherwise simple dress. There are shorter shawls for a basic flash of color and longer shawls that seem to float in a cloud around and behind you.

In the end, it matters little what your choice of dress. A silk wrap or shawl is sure to add flair providing each wearer with her own special look. A silk shawl is elegant and a very practical item to accessorize your outfit for a special occasion.

Great Hub. These are all very lovely. These silk shawls are great to add to a plain t-shirt or to an evening gown to dress it up. Plus they are very light and feel so great on your skin.
