Smoky Eyeshadow Video Tutorials

Updated on November 14, 2008

Open any magazine and you're sure to see a gorgeous, stunning, perfect (-ly photoshopped!) Amazon who is getting paid loads of money as Hollywood makeup artists buzz around her, turning her into the woman all other women love to hate! These are the women who somehow look fabulous with 50 colors painted across her eyelid in 80s video-star fashion. Y'all know what I mean, cos y'all also know that most of us womens can't pull that off, and we tend to look especially silly when we try the smoky eye look. Honestly, every time I try it, I feel like I look like I've just had a run-in with a cue chalk square.

However!! There is hope for us mortals!! The following videos contain super fabuloso smoky eye tutorials that most of us will look hawt mama sexy in. Erm, as long as we practice. They each have different methods and each look a bit different. If you'd like your smoky eye to look more Victoria's Secret and less Joan Jett, go for the first vid, which is so easy, it's amazing! If you'd like to look like a maneater, try the others. Good luck, and practice, practice, practice!

Best Smoky Eye Tutorial Ever!

#1: Beau Nelson Is Da Man!

Ok, so my fave video here is from Beau Nelson, and he is the man. I have never seen anyone make this kind of thing look so easy! Yes, it helps that the model has perfect eyes, face, etc. etc, but it's just too easy to not try it. And you should try it; you'll like it!

Sephora's Smoky Eye Instructions

#2: Sephora's Smoky Eye

This video has 2 different sets of instructions. The first is called Modern Gothic, the second is called Blue Smoke. Both look great on the models, but they do involve a lot of color and a lot more technique than the first video. If you're a starlet in the making, however, this might be your thing!

Another Sephora Tutorial

#3: Another Sephora Video

This video shows you how to create a smoky eye that's kind of halfway between the first video and the second. More technique than the first, but not as dramatic looking as the second. The eyeliner is a bit heavyish, but that might look fab on you!

M*A*C Makeup Artist's Smoky Eye Tutorial

#4: MAC Artist's Smoky Eye

This one is pretty cool because it's one where the artist herself has the smoky eye thing going on! The look is very dark, very smoky eye that some of you Goth chicks would probably love!

Very cool instructions. I've tried it, but I've never been able to get the smokey eye to look right two days in a row.

Even by using the same techniques both days.

I love the look! But I have never been successful at it. I think I will give it a try again, it looks simple in the videos, so maybe this time I get that smoky eye effect to make the boys drop at my feet :)

Thanks Isabella! I was just thinking my eyes were stuck in the 80s and I needed some new tricks. I liked #1 best.
