Denim is a sturdy fabric commonly used for jeans and other durable clothes. It is made from cotton, synthetic fibres, or a blend of both. The cloth is woven in the "twill weave" pattern. Denim was first woven in Nimes, France, and was called serge de Nimes. American manufacturer Levi Strauss produced the first blue denim jeans.
