How useful is a tie?
Was it just invented to fill the empty space around our necks?
I think it really has no practical use. It just developed into a status symbol for business.
It serves no practical purpose, but neither does any fashion. It evolved from the 19th-Century cravat and was later used to hold the top part of a shirt together. Today, it is basically an historical accessory that brings an informal or semi-formal outfit together with a bit of color. They should be silk and a necktie should not be worn in blacktie attire.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but SEO and Moneymaking wise, hubpages views and followers don't seem to have any (or minimal) influence. Is this correct? It's more of a status symbol?
