I had never actually heard of this before so I did a little research.
Here are a few quick recipes: courtesy of the good folks over at Skin Care, Recipes and Remidies
"➢ When your hair feels oily and dirty, apply some amount of plain cornstarch to the hair roots. Blend cornstarch properly with your hair and brush it out. The cornstarch soaks up excess oil and removes the dirt.
➢ Make a mixture of baking soda and ground oatmeal, one cup each. Keep this in air tight container in your bathroom. Like cornstarch, this also absorbs oil and dirt from your hair.
➢ If your hair is really oily, make a mixture of 1 tablespoon orris root, 1 tablespoon of cornmeal and 1 tablespoon of ground almond. Brush your hair smooth before applying this mixture and ensure that the powder reaches the hair roots. Later brush your hair again to remove the powder.
➢ In a salt and pepper shaker, mix 1/2 cup of cornmeal with 1 tablespoon of salt and shake till salt mixes with the cornmeal. Use the shaker to sprinkle the powder on your hair. Brush the powder off after some time.
➢ Whip egg whites into the consistency of meringue. Apply the whipped egg to the hair. Leave it like that till it completely dries up and then brush the dried egg off.
A bit of warning for this recipe: once you wash the hair, be sure not to use very hot water, it will turn the egg whites into an omelet and leave clumps behind.
➢ Make a mixture of 1 teaspoon baking soda, oatmeal and fragrant herbs of your choice. Sprinkle this on your hair, massage your scalp for 5 minutes and brush the powder off. "
