   Yes, you can get a clear top ball instead of a noticeable one, but what is the point? Most people get a piercing so people can see it. I guess I just don't get it

      Well for me personally, I do things for myself, not to show it off, I'm a shy person therefore I prefer it to be as hidden as possible... mostly because my family doesn't like them

      Ahh i see. that makes total sense. Go for it. If it's something you would like to do then do it, however if you like do to things for yourself, then do it and don't be ashamed of it!

      They say online is bad, as it rusts and can cause infection though... I bought heaps online

   You would have to check with the shop you're getting it pierced at.  Don't know about there, but I've never been to a place here that allowed you to bring your own jewelry in, you're usually required to get something they have as they know it's good quality and they usually want to cover their bases by not putting something of poor quality in for you and have it reflect badly on them if it gets infected.
   
   Are you still living with your family/seeing them often?  Tongue piercings take weeks to heal and even if you can't see the piercing well it will be noticeable you've had something done.
