What Do You Want In Life When You Are Older

Updated on June 17, 2011

I have for some time now been thinking, "what do I want out of life when I am older?" There are so many things to think about in this area. Do we want to have the life of the rich, but have to work until we are too old to work, in order to keep our high style of life going?

What ever happened to the old simple life we all used to live. We didn't have to work our fingers to the bone just to be able to live high on the hog and impress our families and friends. Some of the people I know well, do just that. They are so far in debt because they want to impress other people.

Not me. They can have those huge homes with of course, that Huge mortgage payment to go alone with it. They just work and work to support their high quality of living like they were rich. Sooner or later, as we get older, we will not be able to work like we did in our younger years, but we still have those huge bills to pay off.

Some people are losing their jobs, or getting laid off from their jobs, and sometimes causing relationships to start falling apart, and arguing over the almighty buck.

Did you ever stop and think, "what if I start to live my life a little more simpler, and forget about all the prestige, and showing off to my family and friends at my expense".

We should be able to take it easy in our older years, not just work to support a beautiful home and some expensive cars. Think of the simple life and just how much easier life would be without all the worries and headaches that come with living like the rich.

I am by far not rich. My riches in life is my health and my family. Yes, everyone in the world wants to be rich and have so much money they don't know what to due with it. That's fine, if you are fortunate enough to have it, but for the average person like myself we make believe we are rich and we are not.

Life can be just as good and maybe even better by living in a less stressful world. Only we can change that stress that goes along with living the good life. I figure, life is to short to just work for material things and for getting about the true meaning of life and happiness.

We can probably live a longer life too without that added stress of money and wondering about how we are going to pay for those expensive toys and homes.

When I got married some 30 years ago, we started out living on a 41 foot boat, and I'll tell you what, that was the best. The boat was paid in full and no taxes to pay, only the yearly boat slip fee, electric and my cable bill.

It is a totally different life living aboard a boat. You have to love it and be willing to make some adjustments in your life, such as all your furniture, clothing and so on. After time, you realize that you really didn't need all the things you did away with when in your home. Just living a simple life and sometimes less is better.

This is were this story is leading to. My wife and I have been talking about doing the same thing now while we are still young enough to enjoy the world of boating, but on the other hand having no huge bills to pay accept for the boat slip and electric and cable of course. I need my cable so that I can still write here on Hub Pages.

But, anyway this is our future I'm sure. It can relieve so much stress in ones life. I'm not saying for everyone run out and buy a boat, but it is our destiny and I think it will make us very happy for the years we have left here on earth. So why not live it up and leave the worries behind.

This is just my idea of living a simple, but nice life. Imagine if you wanted to take a trip or just get away from your neighbors, all you have to do is untie the lines and set sail.

THAT'S WHAT I"M TALKING ABOUT, {FREEDOM, LESS STRESS, AND LIVING THE GOOD LIFE}. IF YOU WANT TO GO ON VACATION, JUST UNTIE THE LINES AND TAKE YOUR HOME WITH YOU.

It is all what you want out of life and after writing this and watching the videos I think I'm going to GO FOR IT! We are only here once so why not enjoy life before we are told old to do so.
