How to Blog Your Way to Wealth

Updated on November 11, 2012

Make Money Blogging

There are a few of us who start a blog for fun and are happy to make a little money in the process, but entrepreneurs want to learn how to blog successfully and earn a six figure income.

The way most bloggers earn money is through Google's AdSense, and other affilliates such as Chitika, and Kontera, however, after you have been blogging for some time you may approach advertisers directly. This is perhaps the best way to earn money blogging. Another way of earning a handsome income with your blog is to sign with Zazzle and Amazon and promote individual products from these sits. Either way, be careful not to overly promote your blog or it will be ranked lower due to too heavily advertising.

You must remember that although you want to make money, you must put the reader first. If all blogs and websites were nothing but leads to get you to lick on their blog so that they could give you the hard sell, no one would use the internet. So, use discretion when placing ads, and your blog will be respected and trusted by readers.

One you have your blog set up to accept ads, the next thing you must do is gain an audience. One of your greatest allies is StumbleUpon.

StumbleUpon Toolbar

StumbleUpon is a personalized social bookmarking tool that delivers pages to you based on your own interests and how popular that content is among other StumbeUpon users, and can greatly increase blog traffic. StumbleUpon puts an emphasis on a personalized web-browsing experience: as you use StumbleUpon over time it learns what your preferences are and matches you up with pages it thinks you would like. A key advantage to using StumbleUpon as opposed to a search engine to find sites is that you don't have to look through a ton a of random pages to find what you are truly interested in. On the downside, you are not given as wide a choice of sites as you would on a regular search engine.

What Is Stumbleupon

To begin using this site, sign up for an account and select topic categories that interest you. Clicking the stumble button takes you to the popular Web pages that others have voted for within the category preferences you have selected. If you have a website or blog, having a page that is popular on StumbleUpon can be an excellent source of traffic that is also qualified, meaning that the people clicking through to your site are likely to be interested in your content.

Gain Traffic to your Blog

Traffic at StumbleUpon is steady and consistent, and there is a social side to this site that is an excellent way to connect with people who are in your particular industry. You may view profiles by clicking the visitors link in the top right navigation menu of your home page, and then click on the "meet a stumbler" button on the stumblers tab. From here you can view that person's profile and decide whether you want to subscribe to it by clicking the green tab. To find more stumblers, click the link underneath that button that says meet another stumbler.
