This question is based on the belief that the person you're texting with knows you and your personality very well.
I agree,so many times my emails are misinterpreted by others that don't know me that I would use LOL as well.
I don't use cell phones so texting is out, but I would need to use a "lol" most of the time because of my straight faced, dry and sometimes satirical sense of humor. It just seems to roll off the cuff that way.
Yes! Funny how three letters can be so important these days. Leave out that "LOL" and all hell could break loose!

Is it really necessary to brush your teeth everyday?I went to the dentist one year after not going for five. I brushed my teeth every now and then for those five years. I gave my teeth a good brushing before the dentist and he told me that my teeth were in the best shape he had seen.

Is Welfare really necessary?Is welfare worth the problems it creates? Does it really help those that are truly in need? Or are there better ways that we could help those who truly need help, and help enable others who think they are in that much need?
