What is the best open source speech recognition software that is available free of charge?
I am looking for speech recognition software that could be adjusted to understand the speech of a person with a speech impediment.
I'm not sure about open source but are you aware that windows vista does already come with built in speech recognition?
So if you are already running Vista no need to look further

I actually use speech recognition software on my computer. The one I use comes built in Microsoft Vista already.
Try the CMU (Carnegie Mellon University) Sphinx whose source code is available for compiling by yourself. Some prebuilt binaries do exist though. These are free
