What is the difference between a podcast microphone, and...
An ordinary usb microphone? I am really curious.
It's all in the name. Many companies are using the term podcast to target the podcasting audience. Microphone preferences are subjective and depend on their intended use. Many podcasters use both USB microphones and professional studio microphones. Both can be used for podcasting. The higher the quality sound you are looking for, can influence the need to go up a few notches in price range. USB microphones (also called podcasting mics) are good choices for those looking for basic, plug-in and record, without the need for pre-amps, processing, etc., as in professional voice-over studios. Sorry for the long answer, but trying to cover enough ground.
Ususally they just call it a different name, but in other cases, USB microphones will be for people using skype so it wont do as good quality... normally... That and from what I understand Podcast ones will generally be area mics but not sure.
