I have a SIM card in my iPad. Does that mean I can make calls or use SMS if I have an app?

I assume the sim in your Ipad is to access the internet by 3g means. I use a '3' dongle for my internet which obviously uses a sim card in a similar way, through 3's launch program I can send and receive text messages to/from any phone but I can't make or receive calls directly through the sim. BUT I can use Skype for both texting and calls, which I suppose you could with your Ipad? Not too sure as I don't posess an Ipad... yet.

The SIM card in your iPad does not turn it into a giant iPhone. All it does is give you access to the internet via a 3G connection with your carrier. As with the iPod Touch, you can use apps such as Skype to make calls, but of course there are limitations to using this type of service i.e you can only call other Skype users who are online at the same time.
