   Why do we feel the need as humans to retain our lives by-
   photos-videos?
   
   What is the real purpose of this maintaining and retaining we do on a constant basis?

   Simple.  We want mementos that trigger good memories that we push out of our minds over time as we retain new information.

   Do you?  I don't, although I enjoy taking photographs, these are just art projects.  I dread it every time my wife goes through the drawer that contains the photo albums, it means another couple of hours of mulling over that which has gone.

   Probably because we do not remember everything in vivid detail.  I would not take pictures of things I do everyday but I have taken lots of  pictures and some videos.  While I am at home on my computer I could look at a picture of one of the beaches I have visited or a swan I saw while I was biking.  Simply looking at a picture of a beach I went to can make me feel more relaxed like I was when I was at the beach.
   
   Sometimes I just want to share the photos with other people but mostly I do it because I do not have a photographic memory.

   Mick S- Yes I do feel the need to take photographs and explore all that can be done with them, but sometimes I ponder -What for? in the long run,
   The "Tao"says  "all is nothing then all is everything as well,"
   it makes me still think why? I generally look at my photos as very small little art works.
   I like what who have commented on "Pushing out of old to bring in the new" and for relaxation,
   
   If we look deeper than the superficial reasons then could it actualy be that we are wanting immortality for our innate source to live forever? Is it to do with our ego?
   Still pondering....

   For me....its memories....I only have to look at a photo of someone/scene etc and be transported back there or remember the fun etc surrounding the time the pic was taken etc. Its like music or smell.
   
   Is it history?  If we know where we came from then does that help with where we're going?
