SEO Tips for a new Blog

When starting a new blog, what Search Engine Optimization techniques do you use to help promote and get traffic to your new blog? What are the first things someone should do to get it to rank in Google? What tips are especially useful for a new blog/website?

I recently started a new blog, and am interested in experimenting with it.

Before you ever try to promote your blog or try to monetize it, you need some fresh and original content.  I would suggest at least 20 blog posts but not all from the same date.  You will want to spread it out over the course of a few weeks.  Your posts should be between 500 and 800 words on topics completely related to your blog's niche and they should contain at least 1 and preferably 2 images that you have the rights to.  Once your posts have been indexed by Google, submit the exact same article to EzineArticles.  Do not edit or spin it in any fashion.  Just add 2 links to your authors resource box, 1 to your blogs main page and 1 to a related post within the blog and not the same article that was just read. This will attract the attention of publishers that use syndicated content for their own sites and the links which must remain if they use it will drive their traffic to your site.  Next you need to search out guest blogging opportunities.  Do a Google search for your niche keywords like this:  "purple widgets" blog: "write for us"  You will find many opportunities but only select those blogs that are getting high traffic, low traffic blogs will do you no favor.  Your content that links to you through the author resource will siphon some of that high traffic to your site.

Great answer! I was not aware you could submit the same article from your blog to EzineAticles. Good tips.

If there was ever a worry about duplicate content then how would news sites ever survive online? They all rely on syndicated content to keep their sites fresh.  If it's okay for them, it's okay for us.

blog promotion is very boring and tough work and most new bloggers run away during the intial promotion of their blog. the results are not immediate and you have to wait for weeks.
