Whats with all this conversational spam?

over the last few days I have received at least ten comments on various hubs that are not to do with the hub itself. For example on a dream hub I had someone say:
Hey Sandy seeya saturday, love the new crib, and on others, 'we went there to see bob last week, speak soon, and so on.
why would someone choose a random hub for doing this, and is there a reason behind it apart from spam? why not use facebook? and the other thing I noticed was that the people who are answering the questions come from various countries, which does not tally with the questions. totally Intrigued! Thanks guys.

Unfortunately, spam is a fact of life not just on HubPages, but the Internet in general. Ignore, delete, destroy and move on.

Thanks freddy, yes it was just so puzzling, to me if they are spamming then they are advertising something, but these aren't they are just silly messages.

I would certainly delete it immediately in case it is a code of some type. Now Hp doesn't show number to find out who and where it came from they can feel safe. I did have things like this a couple years ago and I always deleted and it stopped. Since then though I have had things come in on my personal videos here and although I have seen nothing lately I think I will delete those. I am in the process of deleting much anyway and see what Bubblews is all about! lol

Interesting. I have not experienced this on Hubpages, but I most certainly have seen it on other sites---particularly news sites and some e-journal sites...very odd.

Beware anything that looks like spam! My hub with the best score got several spam comments, probably from the same person, before I realized it was spam. Those comments appear to have left a virus because I can’t access the comments to reply. HP has been notified, so I hope they are working on it. If spammers start leaving viruses on our hubs, they could shut us down.

Also just now discovered that it has disabled my "follow" button on other people's profiles. I can't add a follow right now.
