Why is the new IOS7 killing my battery on my iPhone 4S?

Is the next upgrade going to be even worse?

iPhones always seem to be bad for battery life.

iphones have generaly been good on their batteries. But the ios 7 is killing your battery life is due to the fact that the ios7 have drivers that are more demanding on your battery, resulting to shorter battery lifespan. I would check whatever programs you have active on your phone and disable them, so you can conserve battery life. Alternatively, you can downgrade back by doing a complete full reset. If that doesn't work, then google iphone io7 help. there are load of forums that can answer your questions better than I.

You definitely should have background refresh turned off. This causes certain apps to constantly update themselves even if you are not using them (go to Settings>General>Background App Refresh). Turning this off might result in a slightly longer opening time, but it definitely saves you battery.
Another thing you could do is turning GPS completely off.
Besides that, just wi-fi off if you are not at home, so it doesn't look all the time for available networks and maybe the brightness down. This should do it.
