Best Compact Camera on the Market

Canon G1X Review

With an exceptionally large sensor, a dynamic range of colors, and a DIGIC 5 processor, the Canon G1X is a clear cut top competitor in the compact digital camera line.

What I like:

The Canon G1X has a large sensor which means that it can receive more light, and can boost more bright color contrasts. One huge pro of the G1X is its incredible design. The Canon G1X comes in sleek black, and a huge 3-inch LCD screen which boasts a pleasing resolution of 920,000 dots and is bright and detailed.

The camera comes with a plush wide viewing angle lens and wide angle lens comes in handy when taking pictures and also when filming in 1080p. If you want to film important life events on your digital camera, or just want to see how clear the picture is on the 3 inch screen, the Canon G1X is for you. The screen can shoot at 24 fps and can keep up with the action in a High Speed Burst HQ mode. In plain terms, the Canon G1X reduces noise so that even the loudest or most choppy videos can be clean. If the video features are not enough to impress, the GX1 boasts a ISO sensitivity range that spans ISO 100-12800, with on-chip noise reduction to increase performance in low light. Canon's latest-generation Digic 5 image processor determines the speed at which data is processed and makes the camera run smoothly. Lastly, the G1X has an impressive 14.3 Megapixels for clear beautiful graphics and a 4x optical zoom.

What Could Use Some Work:

While the G1X has an articulate screen and many amazing features, the camera can be awkward to hold for a long period of time.

Overall:

All in all, the Canon G1X has a plethora of many features including a huge 3 inch screen, a Digic 5 image processor, 4x optical zoom, and an astounding 14.3 megapixels. If you are looking for a compact digital camera with a huge screen, and quick features, this is a perfect fit.

When it comes down to selecting a digital camera, the most important qualities are the optical zoom, the processing speed, the megapixel sensor, and the image quality. Taking into account all of these qualities, the camera that takes the cake is the G1X. That being said it's on the pricey side and if you're in the $400 range I'd recommend the S100, or in the $200 the Nikon S6300 which I'll review below.
