Free Things To Do In San Diego County - Solana Beach
South of Encinitas is the city of Solana Beach, which has a cliff-lined coast that is divided into four main beach areas: Tide Beach, which offers a reef and good tidepooling opportunities, Fletcher Cove, otherwise known as "Pillbox," which is where most of the festivities occur, Seascape Surf Beach and Del Mar Shores. Fletcher Cove is home to many of this neighborhood's free events, including the annual Fiesta del Sol, a music, food, arts and crafts fair in June, the annual Beach Blanket Movie Night in August, and the annual Holiday Tree-lighting/Sing-a-long celebration in December. Throughout the summer, free concerts are also given here on a weekly basis. Check the Chamber of Commerce website for current details on all of these free events (http://www.solanabeachchamber.com/Chamber.htm). The Solana Beach branch of the San Diego Library also offers a multitude of free, regularly-scheduled reading (including book clubs and story times), writing, language (including Spanish, French and Farsi), game (including bridge) and arts and crafts (including drawing, origami, knitting and theater) clubs. Check the website for current schedules (http://host.evanced.info/sdcl/evanced/eventcalendar.asp?ag=&et=&dt=mo&df=calendar&cn=0&private=0&ln=29).
