How to Have the Best Missouri Family Vacation

Updated on May 4, 2009

Missouri is an exciting place to have your family vacation. With bustling St. Louis and Kansas City offering shows, attractions, and nightlife, and Branson offering weeks worth of family-friendly entertainment, you are sure to find something everyone in your family will love.

St. Louis

A vital part of American history once known as the "gateway to the West," St. Louis offers museums and historical sites along with more modern urban attractions. Its most famous attraction, the Gateway Arch, has become a symbol of the city. You and your family can take an elevator to the top and look out over the majestic Mississippi River. You can also picnic along the Riverfront, go on a paddlewheel tour, and see a giant-screen movie at the Odyssey Theatre.

Beyond the Arch, you and your family can watch the lemurs play at the St. Louis Zoo, cheer on the Cardinals baseball team at the new Busch Stadium II, and check out science presentations and hands-on activities at the St. Louis Science Center. At night, there are plenty of restaurants and entertainment to fit any schedule or budget.

Kansas City

Often called the "City of Fountains," Kansas City offers its own variety of unique and interesting attractions. Dual theme parks, Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun can provide your family with several days of entertainment. Worlds of Fun boasts several outstanding rollercoasters for the thrill seeker in your family.

The Kansas City Zoo and Kansas Speedway can also pack lots of fun into your day. After a busy day of sight-seeing, relax in Westport, a nighttime hub filled with artists' studios, small shops, and unique restaurants and attractions. Kansas City vacation rentals are a great choice for any family, and range from quaint bed and breakfasts to luxury hotels. Worlds of Fun also offers visitors accomodations.

If your family enjoys music and shows, you could not pick a better vacation destination than Branson. Country singers, comedians, puppet shows, and artists of all kinds take the stage in venues that line the streets of the city. Shows with themes from particular decades are particularly popular, with music, costumes, and cars from the 50s, 60s, or 70s. Nearby Silver Dollar City combines thrill rides with over 40 daily performances as well as a variety of music, food, and crafts. Vacation packages in Branson give you great options for building your Branson vacation around your favorite shows.

Missouri - a great family vacation destination

A Missouri family vacation is bound to bring your family closer together. Whether you are strolling under the Arch along the Mississippi River in St. Louis, screaming down a 75-mile-per-hour roller coaster at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City, or enjoying some nighttime family comedy in Branson, your Missouri family vacation will be one that your family will never forget.

I enjoyed your hub. As a St. louisan I can testify that not only do we have lots of great attractions, but most are free. The Zoo, Grants Farm and a world class art museum to name just a few! :)
