Is The Big One Coming Soon?
Is The Big One Coming Soon?
People living in Southern California and in the Mexicali Area:
Okay, I am not a Prophet of Doom or Gloom but if you are living anywhere in the Mexicali-San Diego and SoCal Area, you should have felt the Magnitude 7.2 Easter Sunday Earthquake (April 4, 2010).
Also you should be aware of the dozens of strong aftershocks 24 hours after that strong quake that was felt in both Mexico and California, as well as in parts of Arizona and Nevada.
Now, if you have been following up this particular earthquake, you should know that there has been hundreds, even thousands of aftershocks from this quake that occurred in this area for the last three months.
And forecasts are even gloomier as some news reports are even anticipating more aftershocks within the next months and even the next few years. Some reports have it that aftershocks can continue for the next ten years.
Now, I personally felt at least four strong aftershocks that occurred in the last three months, following that first quake. And those are only the ones that were over magnitude 5. I believe anything weaker than that, I and most everyone else would have missed.
And so here is my question. With all these strong aftershocks, is the much anticipated Big One more likely to come anytime soon? Or are these aftershocks a sign that the overdue Big One will be delayed even more as the stresses underneath our feet are systematically being released and thus buying more time for the people living in Mexico and Southern California?
What do you think?
I would rather be a Prophet for Positives and say that these aftershocks, which are rattling nerves in the area to say the least, are rather a good sign. But who could really say?
Any which way, for now, I will continue to tie down our furniture, our fixtures, our appliances and anything major that could fall on me and my family inside our home. And also we are polishing and finalizing our emergency plans, and letting everyone know what to do before, during and after an emergency, such as a strong earthquake.
What To Do Just In Case:
Anyway, I am shopping around and looking for good emergency kits and I have placed rechargeable flashlights all over the house—the ones that light up when power is cut off. We also have solar powered lights and both a solar transistor radio as well as a crank-up one.
I also have drinking water stored in three and five gallon containers as well as food that we store in the pantry cabinets.
And in case you believe in God, then pray.
