Playa de San Juan is a resort on Tenerife's southwest coast

Updated on February 20, 2016

Where is Playa de San Juan?

Playa de San Juan is located in the south of Tenerife but on its west coast , with the other popular resorts of Alcalá, Playa de La Arena and Los Gigantes further along from it. Playa de San Juan, which means St John's Beach, is also a favourite spot for locals from the nearby town of Guía de Isora.

As its name suggests, the main attraction of Playa de San Juan is the beach and it boasts several of these. Playa de San Juan has a white sand beach that has been artifically created, a black volcanic sand beach, a rocky beach and another that lies mostly covered in pebbles and stones. The natural black sand beach has been honoured with a Blue Flag award.

Regular Buses to the resort of Los Cristianos

Playa de San Juan's seafront offers a range of restaurants, bars and shops so visitors to the resort will find most of their needs met there if they are just on a day's outing.

The Tenerife TITSA buses conveniently stop on the road that runs along the front, so it is easy to catch one if you want to go further south on the island. Regular services run to and from the popular resorts of Playa de Las Américas and Los Cristianos.

Playa de San Juan is a place that anglers like to try their luck from and fishermen with rod and line can often be spotted on the rocks. Playa de San Juan, of course, is mostly popular because of its sandy beaches, and all the usual beach facilities are provided.

In the side streets of Playa de San Juan you will find more shops as well as a range of local businesses.

There is a traditional Canary Islands church with a square, as well as a number of play areas for the children and a tiny park as well.

In addition to all these attractions, Playa de San Juan has a dive centre for people who enjoy investigating the amazing world underneath the waves.

Playa de San Juan's location in the south of Tenerife measn that it usually has the best of the weather, while at the same time is much quieter and laid back than resorts like Playa de Las Américas.

Playa de San Juan offers everything a holiday-maker would want from a seaside resort and for the more adventurous there are pathways leading up and along the cliffs.

Playa de San Juan is definitely worth visiting if you are taking your holidays on Tenerife.
