The Best Hotel In Fairbanks, Alaska: Pike's Waterfront Lodge
Great Affordable Hotel in Fairbanks
Looking for the best hotel in Fairbanks, Alaska? Look no further than this little gem. I stumbled upon this hotel when I was searching the internet for a hotel in Fairbanks near the airport. I was arriving a few days before my guided tour started and I needed a nice hotel to stay in that wasn't too pricey. Pike's Waterfront Lodge had basically everything that I was looking for: a low nightly rate, complimentary breakfast, complimentary airport shuttle, a restaurant, and a great view.
Pike's Waterfront Lodge Review
When I arrived at Pike's Lodge, I was greeted by very friendly staff. My check in was very smooth and quick. Once in my room, I found it to be very clean and very spacious. It had a flat screen tv with cable. It also had another thing that is very hard to find depending on where you go in Alaska: wireless internet. The building must be very well-built, because even with being located so close to the airport and a highway, I could not hear much noise.
The next morning I went downstairs for the complimentary breakfast. The food was very good. I wasn't really expecting much when I was told continental breakfast, but Pike's really surprised me. There was a waffle maker, fruit, oatmeal, muffins, coffee, tea, and juice. The dining room is facing the river, so there is a pretty view.
There is a deck that runs along the side of the lodge facing the river where you can sit and watch the river traffic float by. Although it was closed when I was there in early September, there is also a miniature golf course and a practice green on site.
Pike's Waterfront Lodge offers a Northern Lights wake up call upon request. One of the items on my things-to-do-while-in-Alaska list was to see the Northern Lights. I asked the front desk to place me on the call list and they called me both nights I was there.
Pike's Lodge also has a nice gift shop. It does have the typical souvenirs, but it also has the essentials if you forgot to pack something. They also offer drinks, snacks, and ice cream.
I highly recommend this hotel. If I ever return to Fairbanks, Pike's Lodge is where I'll be staying. It is clean, reasonable, and friendly. It looks very rustic, but it is only aesthetic. Pike's Waterfront Lodge is a very updated hotel with modern amenities.
Complimentary Airport Shuttle
When I was making a decision as to where to stay in Fairbanks, an airport shuttle was definitely on my list. There is a free phone located at the bottom of the escalator in the airport. When you have claimed your bags, simply dial #3 and the hotel will answer the line. I only had to wait about 10 minutes for my shuttle to arrive.
The price of a room was very reasonable, it was one of the top reasons I picked this hotel. That being said, prices can vary widely depending on what time of year you are visiting. Alaska's tourist season runs from the middle of May to about the middle of September. Prices will be less at the beginning and the end of the season. Rooms are definitely going to cost more in June, July, and August.
Although I did not eat there when I was in Fairbanks, there is a restaurant called Pike's Landing next to the the hotel. If you call room service, this is the restaurant you'll be speaking to. I did browse the menu they had in the room. It seemed as if they had a good variety to choose from, and the prices were standard for what you are going to pay for food in Alaska.
