Three Must See Locations In South Carolina

Most people living in the southeastern United States quite often overlook some great travel destinations right in their own backyards. And if you live in or close to South Carolina there are some really great travel destinations you should not overlook.

Hilton Head Island is quite often overlooked because most people think the island is to expensive to visit and enjoy. But Hilton Head Island really shouldn't be overlooked as a travel destination especially if you or other family members are into history. Because Hilton Head Island is a place rich in history and its been a travel destination all the way back to the times of the Native Americans before the Europeans even showed up. The Native Americans used to come to Hilton Head Island to eat and enjoy shellfish and there is still a huge seashell ring that you can still see to this day.

In case you want to see it the shell ring is located near the entrance to the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. The oldest man built structure on Hilton Head Island is the Baynard Mausoleum, which was built in 1846. If you want to see the Mausoleum it is located near the corner of William Hilton Parkway and Matthew Drive. Below is a photo of the old Mausoleum which was built in 1846.

Hilton Head Island is 12 miles long and 5 miles wide and it is the largest barrier island between Long Island New York and the Bahamas. The really great thing about Hilton Head Island is that neon signs , bright street lights , and tall buildings are not allowed on Hilton Head Island so you can take a walk along the beach and see the stars at night.

And if you love playing golf then Hilton Head Island is the place for you with some of the best golf courses in the world so if you want the ultimate golf adventure be sure to check with your travel agent about Hilton Island Golf Packages.

But the beaches keep coming back to my mind. The beaches on Hilton Head Island are truly some of the most beautiful beaches in the United States and there is plenty of public accesses so that your family can enjoy the beaches of Hilton Head Island when your family travels to Hilton Head Island.

Your family can take a day trip to Hilton Head Island and enjoy the beaches and then have a picnic at one of the many public parks with picnic areas on Hilton Head Island.
