Hilton Head Island is quite often overlooked because most people think the island is to expensive to visit and enjoy. But Hilton Head Island really shouldn't be overlooked as a travel destination especially if you or other family members are into history. Because Hilton Head Island is a place rich in history and its been a travel destination all the way back to the times of the Native Americans before the Europeans even showed up. The Native Americans used to come to Hilton Head Island to eat and enjoy shellfish and there is still a huge seashell ring that you can still see to this day.
In case you want to see it the shell ring is located near the entrance to the Sea Pines Forest Preserve. The oldest man built structure on Hilton Head Island is the Baynard Mausoleum, which was built in 1846.
