Senggigi Beach is the most scenic and popular beaches of the Island of Lombok with coral gardens grow in the sea just off shore. At the Northwest coast of Lombok, there are three beach clustered together: Gili Air, Gili Meno, and Gili Trawangan with coral garden in clear water around the island. Mountain Rinjani with 3,726 meters high active volcano and the tallest in Indonesia. At the floor of the volcano’s huge caldera is the sickle shaped crater Lake Segara Anakan, surrounded by steep walls and popular with the hikers. Mount Tambora (2,820 meter) at Sumbawa is not active anymore. Tambora is notorious for its savage eruption in 1815 with debris, hot gasses, and lava streams that killed more than 12 thousand people. At the top now there are two big caldera that has two colored lakes.

Sape Sumbawa

Ship wrights still make sailboats the traditional way in this port town on Sumbawa’s east coast. Sape is a convenient point of departure for trips to Komoda Island across the strait, home of the prehistoric giant Komodo lizard. The unique and rare species Komodo Dragon (Varanus Komodoensis) is actually a giant monitor lizard.


Pura Lingsar

Temple or Pura Lingsar is the only Hindu shrine in the world where both Hindus and Moslems come to worship. Pura is about seven kilometer west of Narmada. It was built in 1714 and rebuilt in 1878 to symbolize harmony and unity between the Hindu Balinese and Moslem Sasak population of the area, especially those who adhere to Lombok’s unique Wektu Telu School of Islam.

      Nice hub. I climbed Rinjani about 5 years ago twice, but unfortunately could not reach the top cause of heavy rain and storm but Segara Anak lake was wonderful. I also like to natural hot spring near the lake. I made camp there about night at that time....
