if my understanding about what you mean by home stay is correct...
In Burma, no foreigner is allowed to stay at someone's home. Whether or not the home owner your relative or friend. It is restricted by the government policy. I am sad.
Anyway, I am from Burma (Myanmar)

There are a lot of family run hostels at least in Thailand and Laos. You just knock and ask for the price. Simple as that if you referred to this type of home stay.
