Fighting the Block

Have you been feeling that writer’s block hitting your head, hard? We’ve all been there, especially when it comes to poetry. Here are a few things you can do to get your stanzas flowing again. Your fingers will be flying across the keyboard in no time!

1. Go to a Reading: Seriously. Listen to other writers share their work aloud. Mingle. Appreciate the different language and stylistic choices, and maybe you’ll be inspired to try something different yourself.

2. Pick Up a New Poet for Your Shelf: Reading poems by someone you’ve never heard of can bring you outside of your comfort zone, and into your creative zone.

3. People Watch: People are weird! Just take a seat somewhere that is relatively crowded, and you’ll be surprised what sort of happenings you’ll witness. Be sure to bring a notebook to jot down any interesting phrases or actions you see.
