   How long of a Hub is too long?
   
   Hubbers are encouraged to write quality Hubs that are not too short.  Can a Hub be too long?  How long is too long?  I think anything under 500 words would be too short.  800-1500 would be good.  Sometimes I get a little chatty and hit 2,000 words.

   There is no set word count. I can show you post on major sites with 200 to 250 words and I can also show you on the same 500 sites or so where they have some that are 2500 words.
   
   This lends to writing for the visitor. If you write and get the information or point across in 300 words, fine, it if takes 2500 words, that is fine also.
   
   The best way to have crappy content is to have a lot of filler and fluff content. This causes the reader to lose interest and therefore a bounce, and the Google panda hates high bounce rates.
   
   It is about quality and "Engaging" content, not word count.

   Hi bankscottage, I'm with you on this. I still think less than 500 is too short and a couple of mine have ran 2000+. From all the stuff I'm reading it seems 800-1200 is good but the biggest thing I've learned is everything changes very quickly. So what seems the norm today has changed by next week.
   
   I'm beginning to think that 800-1200 is good simply because you can say what you want with quality and hold the readers interest. I'm thinking that if you get their interest and they want more you can supply with another hub.
   
   The gurus also seem to say that more articles on one topic helps your ranking and credibility. Also each new hub is a new page, a new title, a new URL and a new opportunity to rank page-1.
   
   I'm new here but have spent more time recently reading than writing hubs. I found that as I read I learned a little more and a little more and then went to editing my hubs.
   This took a lot of time.
   
   I am now trying to get a handle on all this so that when I write a hub I'll know it's pretty good,

      I've heard longer hubs and the longer your reader spends on the hub, the higher the Google rank.
      For my long hubs, I use a table of contents if possible.  I don't think a series (part 1, part 2, etc.) are good ideas.

      Hi bankscottage, thx for congrats. You're right about the time spent being a factor. There's so many factors my head is spinning. Fixing cars is easier. You are also right about series the trick they say is to make them stand alone pieces, somehow,MJ

      MJ, what I am trying right now is a general hub (hikes in Arizona) in the category (Travel => Arizona) with 4 in it.  I am then making longer Hubs for each hike in a different category (sports => hiking) with links to each from the longer Hub.

      Hi bankscottage, I like it, I like it a lot, but you shouldn't be giving your game plan away here. This is the one thing these gurus seem to agree on, try something, see if it works and if not try something else.Def worth a try, I'll keep a look, MJ.

   I have seen this question in various forms here on HubPages. Yardsticks for hub quality seem to be hard to come by. Certainly, evaluation on the basis of length alone is not sufficient. Looks to me like you have to judge on a hub-by-hub basis.
