What helps drive more traffic to your hub, Solid Content or Topical Subjects?
I'm new to hubPages in terms of full use. I want to know which is more effective, a current hot topic that drive traffic today or evergreen content that has less glitz and glamour. Even more, how can you balance both and is there a proper mix of glitz (Topical Subjects) to glory (Evergreen Content). By evergreen content I mean, you have relevance to a subject that is timeless and special to you and the audience. By topical subjects I mean, you see a current content trend that has a huge wave coming and you get right on top and ride the wave. So, I'd like to know which strategy works best.
From what I've read and what I've observed How To's drive the most traffic. When you search Google Hot Topics it is usually what you'd see on the news or the pop news for the last 24 hours, so there's a shelf-life built in. How To's seem to be found by a lot of Google searches on a regular basis.
That's not the kind of writing I do, so I may not be the best hubber to be giving advice. I'm doing OK here after a year, but I'm not setting any records. I'm writing what interests me and that's my priority.
I agree that how-to's do well. To be able to make good on it, though, you need to pick a subject that hasn't been done to death. There's a million times infinity SEO how-to's.
Thanks Kathleen, I agree on the how to seem to work well. What I'd like to know is did you have a great article and struggled on the title. Or great title and focused on good content.
I would say evergreen. I wrote a few articles almost 3 years ago that still receive traffic from Google. The hot topics come and go and you will probably become exhausted trying to keep up with trends and news.
@yeagerinvestments hmm that sounds amazing. I love the idea of having traffic from articles 3 years old. What made the topics special? What made the articles unique? I have a few of my own that have lasted. I'm trying to find out why there too.
I'm not really sure. The content is ok, but not great. The article(s) are based on low volume keywords but supposedly have high competition. I'm still trying to figure it out myself.
Both. I think that you can write great content about a topic that no one cares about and not get any views. Also, if you write about a topic that is saturated and has high competition you wont get many views at all. The key is writing about things that are popular but do not have much information on them. This was really messy I was kinda thinking along the way. Hope this makes sense XD.
@passthejelly Yes it does make sense.. And greatly appreciate the perspective..

Just wondering in your opinion how to drive traffic to your hub?

I just shared the crap out of a Hub I wrote that I think is pretty good (the one on longevity called "The First Person to Live to Be 200 Years Old is Alive Today"), and it seems to be a home run. In just 2 days, I've gotten 1,623 (about a third of my total views EVER). I'm not...

One thing I'm worried about is some of my more active hubs losing traffic. How do you guys maintain traffic to the hubs? Does editing and republishing new content help? Do you just keep writing new hubs and creating links if/when applicable to grow the link authority?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum category - but does anyone know how various dates on our hubs affect Google traffic? I've noticed during several recent searches that some high-ranking results do not show the publication date. There are also no comments sections on some of these...

Assuming you care to be visible to big G.1. Start with a niche topic that can get a lot of search results. Use the adword keyword tool to find it. If you don't know what that is google "adword keyword tool". 2. Make a hub based on that topic that is somewhat broad concerning that...
