   What is the average length of time that a hub is featured for, in your experience?
   
   So far, all of mine are, but I have no clue how long I can expect that to last. Input welcome!

   As long as they keep getting at least a bit of traffic, they'll stay featured. It's the ones that don't get any views at all, for a period of time, that are at risk of going idle - but, I'm not sure exactly how long it takes.
   
   Also, I get the feeling that it's only views from external sources (Google searches, etc) that keep a hub featured, or at least that external views carry more weight. But, that's just the impression I get from watching my own stuff - I can't really say for sure.

   You can help keep your hubs featured just by updating them about once a month. I think this was the goal Hubpages wanted, because Google likes newer updated content now. If you do that to the ones that aren't getting much traffic, I think you might prevent them from being deindexed.
   
   Some topics are never going to get traffic. I'm taking off those that I should have never written about and updating the ones that should be.

   In my experience, it looks as if traffic keeps your hubs alive as long as it keeps coming. I've been here two and a half months and all 25 are still featured. One was put to sleep a week ago (a poem) but I woke her up within a day with editing. She's fine for now with increased traffic. I wish I could tell you that "period of time" Dallas Matier is referring to regarding when your sleepy hub gets put to sleep. I sensed that it was coming as I watched the views on that poem hub stop. I was prepared but it was like a death in your hub family. I was so glad when I resuscitated her ;-)

   The featured hub idea is a fairly recent development. Introduced in just the last few weeks.
   It came into existence after the idle hubs program was introduced. 
   
   How long they remain featured, I assume will depend on the program that decides that the hub has not met some criteria or other.
   
   Updating your hubs is always a good idea.

   It's not a question of "how long".   "Featured" does not mean what it means elsewhere, i.e. it's been chosen to be specially highlighted in some way.
   
   A Featured Hub is one that has passed the QAP test and therefore is visible to the general public and can be found on Google and other search engines.   Once it has passed the test, it will stay Featured, unless it fails to get traffic. 
   
   If your Hub fails the QAP test it is not Featured, it is made invisible to the search engines and to browsing visitors, and therefore will not earn any income.   
   
   Note that if you edit a Hub, it goes through the QAP process again.
