This might have been suggested before, but it would be awesome if people could subscribe to a hubber's hubs by topic, not just to all of them. When a hubber writes on a lot of different subjects, followers will often be interested in just one of those subjects and get irritated when they get 50 emails that aren't relevant to their interests at all.
Seeing as we're using a category system to publish hubs now, is there any way to allow subscription by categories too?
I have this idea that you can subscribe to topics and receive notices when anyone posts a hub to that topic? I could be wrong tho
Yeah, I'm asking because some of my readers want to follow my hubs specifically, but they are only interested in some of them. The subscribe by topic feature is great if you want all hubs on a certain subject written by anyone at all, but if you just want to follow a single author, it doesn't work very well.
Hi Hope, Kirstenblog,
Kirstenblog is right. If you want, you can follow your favorite topic and see any authors that publish there. Unfortunately, when you follow a hubber, you are following all of the hubber's hubs in any topic.
I think that it's a great idea to be able to follow only certain topics of your favorite authors. I will add it to our list of features to consider going forward.
If you are using the Custom Home Page (it's one of the home pages that you can select), there is a widget that you may be interested in that allows you to follow a list of up to 10 authors in a given category.
It's called "Hubs (By Author)". If you then click "edit" which appears at the bottom of the widget when the mouse passed over, then you can set the category and a list of up to 10 authors that you want to follow in the widget.

Oh hey, thanks for the reply Larry
The topics feature is great, but it doesn't work for some people who don't want to follow a bunch of authors, or even follow all the hubs by one author.
For example, I write about fashion and gaming a lot - those who are interested in the gaming hubs tend not to want to be emailed when I write about floral skirts, and those who are interested in fashion don't particularly care how to mod the sims.
Glad to hear you're adding it to the features to consider!

I'm new, so I have what may be a dumb question. I've noticed that some people have their hubs organized into general topic areas on their profile page. How do I go about doing that?

What's the best way to pick the topic category for your hub?Is your hub exposed to more potential readers if you pick the general category, or is it better if you get more specific picking the sub-categories?Example:Homevs.Home>Gardening>Garden Design

Do people still buy Magazine subscriptions? If they do what ones?Magazine subscriptions are cheaper and cheaper and the only reason I see for selling them for 78% off is to ensure they have some kind of income at all. So do people still buy magazines? What ones? Why?

Had an outside person say they wanted to "follow" me, but said that th link did not work. Do people have to be members of the community to follow each other?

We deployed a small update to the site today. It contained a lot of minor changes and bug fixes, but also a couple of notable things:- In the comments capsule you can now prevent future comments without losing your existing comments. Just edit the capsule and check the appropriate box.-...
