India as you know, is the land of many religions, cultures, traditions, festivals, and even languages and dialects. Travel to India and you will be more than surprised to see people speak perfect English as well in cities and towns. Among the languages spoken in the northern states of India the predominant ones include Punjabi, Bengali, Hindi, Bhojpuri, etc. In South India, we have Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam,Tulu, etc., depending on the States to one belongs.
Kannada is spoken in the southern state of Karnataka of which Bangalore is the capital. Bangalore as you know is the IT city where software companies such as Infosys, Wipro are headquartered. It is also home to several BPO's and industries, besides also being hailed as the hub for medical tourism. Being the Garden city and called the Pensioner's paradise, this cosmopolitan city boasts of people from all over India and from other countries, as it is a haven for job seekers and students to professional colleges such as engineering and medicine. This is also the reason why many people seek to learn the local language, Kannada, although English is also predominantly spoken. The official language here being Kannada, most official documents to be filled will be printed in Kannada with the English translation, but it pays to know some important vocabulary.
It is my endeavour in teaching Kannada to anyone wanting to learn. Use of vocabulary for shopping, travel, commuting by local buses or autos, striking hard bargains at the market are all covered in my blog, entitled Kannada Fluenzy. The basics are taught using audio snippets to help one with the correct pronunciation. There are many ways to learn a new language . In order to gain confidence in conversing, one needs to listen carefully , repeat what is heard and then try to say it the correct way and once you master that you can practice saying in front of the mirror and play back the audio to see if you need corrections. Once you know the meaning and correct pronunciation of the conversational sentences given to be used in any given scenario, you are encouraged to say it aloud and repeat until perfect. And then look for an opportunity to practice what you learnt with a local Kannadiga in the scenario that was learnt. You are sure to make headway and come away getting what you precisely wanted,be it bargains at the fruit market, directions to the museum or travel information.
