    How to improve concentration?

To improve our concentration we must stop trying
to do several things at once. If you are writing
an article, don’t be thinking about what to say
to your boss later in the day.

Have some rosemary around you (The herb not your girlfriend).

Tests have been done with students taking exams with good results.

    Try rosemary essential oil.

There are many concentrative exercises.  For example, back in the early 1980s I used to spend 30 minutes twice daily endeavouring to focus my entire attention on the sweep hand of a stop-watch.  Every thought which arose was ignored or discarded.   The idea was to concentrate on that sweep hand.     It was very, very difficult.  but after nearly two years of this, I could keep my mind fully concentrated on it for around 70 to 80% of the time.

This was superseded by my introduction to Vipassana Meditation, which I have pursued ever since.   But concentration?   Try something easier like listening to the ticking of a watch and not letting one tick be missed.  With practice, you'll be surprised how focused you can become.

    Good luck.

thank you Rob Bell , , ,Didn't know that. I have a rather large rosemary bush in the garden , , ,going to start keeping a sprig or two on my desk , , ,as far as my answer - when I am having challenges with concentrating I do an all nighter like tonight. I work on being able to type, read, connect thoughts, and be cognitive. Then I sleep on it.

For me the first step is to get a good night sleep.  After that I find exercise and yoga calms my body and enables me to
    1st be calm and
    2nd to concentrate.

    Being alone also helps.

    Tusitala Tom,
I might try your clock exercise.
