Are any of my favorite movies your favorite movies too?

How many of my favorite movies would also be on your list of favorite movies? Which ones? Why? And why wouldn't some be on your favorite movies list?

Inception, Shutter Island, Blood Diamond, Remains of the Day, Legends of The Fall, The World's Fastest Indian, Sin City, Dogville, Being John Malkovich, Amelie, The Contant Gardener, Fried Green Tomatoes, Dances with Wolves, Premonition, The Game, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Knight and Day, Thelma and Louise, Fight Club, Sweeney Todd, Evita, Moulin Rouge, Burlesque, Mama Mia, The Jacket, 127 Hours, The Bridges of Madison County

The only ones on your list that would be on mine are Inception, Shutter Island, Blood Diamond, and maybe Fight Club. I'm a big fan of Leonardo DiCaprio mostly because he came out when I was a teen. He makes great movies. Fight Club was just a good movie, not a big fan of Brad Pitt but it was a good movie. I haven't seen a few on your list and the others weren't great for me.

Yes, great twist at the end of Shutter Island - makes you want to watch it again to better understand the whole flow of the movie, now that you know the ending smile

Hi Teresa, this is a great question!

Remains of the Day is definitely one of my all time favorite movies....I have seen it a number of times.  I really like the story....especially the feelings the Head Housekeeper(Emma Thompson) had for the head butler (Anthony Hopkins), and how all along you can see how she wanted to express those feelings, but held them back.  And, Anthony Hopkins I felt, had feelings for her as well, but kept them hidden, because he was after all, setting an example for the staff under him.

Another of my favorites that is on your list, is The Shawshank Redemption....what a movie!!!  I have also seen this a number of times.  What acting....Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman....wow!  You almost forget it isn't real....I was so immersed in that movie...it was so brilliant!  The relationship between the two men, how they became friends and were there for each other was so touching.  But mainly, I found it amazing how anyone could withstand being in prison for something they didn't even do, as was Tim Robbins' case.....I felt so sorry for him, as if I really knew the character....
And movies I have seen that are on your list, that are not favorites are Legends of the Fall, Thelma & Louise, Knight & Day, Premonition...all good movies that were well done, however, personally, I didn't find anything particularly amazing about any of them. There may be some people who would love these...

Thanks for this detailed answer - and your thoughts on Remains of the Day almost mirror mine exactly.

. . . yikes - not one. "Being John Malkovich" I liked a lot, but it wouldn't be on my 'favorites list' . . . "Sin City" I'm looking forward to watch when I get to it, a couple of those you mentioned I've not seen and can't imagine having an interest to watch, and, a few of those I actively dislike. But, I'm sure many on my own 'favorites list' wouldn't delight you - wouldn't it be a real drag if we were all the same . . ?

Well, let me see - I don't think any of your movies have a chance at cracking my top 10...I'd think that Fried Green Tomatoes would probably be in my top 25, though. You have a few movies on here, like Knight and Day, 127 Hours, and Amelie that I think are just straight up unwatchable and/or boring, personally.

I do have a thing for DiCaprio movies, and Inception and Shutter Island are quite good. But, Blood Diamond would not be in my list of favorite films at all. In replacement there, I'd throw in Gangs of New York, which is in my top 5 favorite movies.

The two Stephen King movies you mentioned are obviously fantastic, and are good even on repeat viewings, especially Shawshank. That one might creep into my top 10, actually. I never saw the fascination with some of the movies on your list, like Thelma and Loiuse or Evita. They're ok, but nothing to write home about. Fight Club is also ok, but I think it's severely overrated and also one of those things where people just latched on. The book wasn't really that great either, in my opinion, so I guess I can't expect to like the movie at that rate.

I can enjoy almost all movies, and I've seen all the movies on your list. I try and find the good in every film when possible, but I can honestly say that I don't think that any of your favorite movies are my favorite movies, too.

And that's a good thing - if we all liked the same movies, then Hollywood would be putting out remakes, sequels, and the same type of garbage over and over again for us to watch! Oh...wait...

Only one of them I would consider a favorite: Inception
However, I also really enjoy Blood Diamond, The Green Mile, and 127 hours.
